Anglican Development Services Eastern (ADSE) was formed in 1987 as Ukamba Christian Community Services (UCCS). The company was initially set up as a development department of the church under the then greater Anglican Diocese of Machakos. The old diocese was later subdivided to Kitui, Machakos, and Makueni Dioceses. The company also covers the Garissa Diocesan Missionary Area (DMA). Its mandate was and still is to carry out social transformation programs in the defined locality. In 2003, UCCS got legally registered as Ukamba Christian Community Services (UCCS).
In 2013, the company was rebranded to its current name for purposes of creating synergies and focus envisioned in the ADS brand.
ADS Eastern is governed by eleven Boards of Directors. The board reports to the Annual General Meeting (AGM). Both the board and the AGM reflect the membership of the participating Dioceses and communities.
Programmes and activities run by ADSE fall under the following strategic themes:
- Food security
- Water and sanitation
